Spelling Camp is a local-first learning application for children, with a separate Parent-controlled area.
Data kept on the device
The application stores learner nicknames, year groups, weekly goals, spelling answers and progress, active practice state, Inklet and Camp progress, Parent security settings, and any last verified purchase or installed-pack state. The publisher and its servers collect and retain none of that data. On iPhone and iPad, learner profiles and learner snapshots may leave the device into the family's private iCloud under Apple's terms. Selected learner, Parent PIN, store entitlements and pack-install jobs stay on the device. The publisher cannot read those private iCloud records. On Android, the application keeps this data on the device only: it copies none of it to a cloud service, and leaves it out of Android backups and device-to-device transfers.
The Parent PIN itself is not stored. The application stores a salted verifier so it can check a PIN locally. Biometric authentication is performed by the device operating system; the application does not receive biometric data.
Network and sharing
Spelling Camp contains no advertising, analytics or tracking service and does not create child accounts. Learner profiles, spelling answers, progress, Inklet and Camp state are not sent to the commerce or download service.
When a Parent buys or restores Full KS2 spelling, the application may send a store purchase proof to the entitlement service and contact the relevant app store to buy, restore or verify a purchase. It may then download signed spelling-pack data. Those operations use purchase and pack authority only, not learner data.
Purchases go through Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play's billing system on Android. Each store takes payment under its own terms, and the application never sees card or other payment details. On Android, Google Play's billing library, which the application includes, may also send Google technical information about purchase requests and store connection problems, under Google's terms.
Amazon Fire tablets run a version of Android, and what this notice says about Android applies to them too, except for purchases. On a Fire tablet, purchases go through Amazon's Appstore under Amazon's terms, and the application never sees card or other payment details. The entitlement service checks each purchase with Amazon, using the purchase receipt and the identifier Amazon assigns to the buying customer for this application, and keeps neither.
Amazon also adds its own code to every app it distributes through its Appstore, and says that code collects analytics about the app. On a Fire tablet, that code and Amazon's purchasing library, which the application includes, may send Amazon information about how the application is used, such as when it is opened and how purchase requests turn out, under Amazon's terms.
An IP address necessarily reaches the entitlement gateway to service a purchase-verification or download request. It is used only for that purpose and is not retained or used to contact or profile anyone.
Retention and control
A Parent can reset one learner's learning or delete that learner in the Parent area. We retain nothing. The family's iCloud holds the replica of learner profiles and learner snapshots from iPhone and iPad, under Apple's terms. Deleting the application removes its remaining application-controlled local data. Deleting the application does not delete iCloud copies. On Android there is no cloud copy of learner data, so deleting the application removes it.
